Welcome to Brawlers Bar…

They said men only get better with age, distinguished and all that BS, but Archer “Bulletproof” Woods hadn’t gotten better. At fifty-six he was still as much an asshole as he’d been in his twenties and thirties, hell, maybe he was worse. Being a bouncer at a bar called Brawlers suited him just fine and he even tolerated the rest of the crew who’d taken up residence in his house when they’d had nowhere else to go. He was big, growly and homely that kept the parade of men passing through Brawlers at arm’s length for the past decade. One night changed all that.

What he’d thought was happily ever after turned into a nearly five year nightmare. Gregory Charles appeared to have it all, a successful business, sophistication, and a perfect marriage. His friend and best employee, Landon, begged him to come out to a friend’s bar to celebrate Landon’s anniversary. What could it hurt? A night without contemplating the hell that would come down on him the moment he served his husband with divorce papers would do him good. That is until he met the brooding older man staring into a whiskey straight ignoring everyone around him.

Watching for trouble was his job and Gregory screamed mistake as soon as the long, lean and handsome man sat down beside him. But he also knew when someone was in over their head and Gregory needed someone to watch his back. That someone was Bull, only time would tell if he’d have to fight Gregory as much as the man after him.

This is so frustrating because this is a GOOD story. The editing/proofing of this book is very, very bad. Wrong words are used over and over - for example "passed" is used for "past" consistently and the punctuation is lacking - often there are no question marks when there REALLY should be question marks. It is sometimes difficult to figure out who is speaking.

The story is great - all the Brawlers/Twirled stories are top notch but the editing issues REALLY need to be fixed by the time the author is 4 books into a series - makes me wonder if they don't really care.

Bull Brawlers Book 3 edition by JM Dabney Laura McNellis Romance eBooks Reviews

Loved Bull getting his much younger man. I really thought Gregory was older from Landon and Zerk's book. I expected him to be mid forties, but the story worked. Gregory was essentially kidnapped by Landon and Bull after they found him beaten by Gregory's husband. Bull fights his attraction to a guy younger than his son. I liked both Polly and Hank,Bull's ex and son, but wished there was more dialogue with them and Gregory. Bull is a recovering alcaholic who hid his sexuality by drinking while being in the Marines. He is gruff, rude, and a jerk, but he wants what Crave and Psycho have. The fact he was a crappy father fills him with guilt, so he adopted the other guys as a way to make amends is what I think he is doing. psych is my favorite, but I love Bull's attitude.
There is a significant age difference between Bull and Gregory but that doesn't stop the chemistry they feel. Bull is a late blooming gay guy that made a lot of wrong choices. Gregory is married to a person that treats him really really bad. They both feel for different reasons they shouldn't be together but it's destiny. Toward the middle Bull keeps harping on the age thing A LOT and it does get annoying but everybody 's got a hill to climb right? I enjoyed the friends and families bonding and I always like to see how past couples are doing.
Bull was well pasted his expiration date. He was lonely and was needing a man. He had his past and he had his brawlers family. He had no regrets and stepping into Brawlers he is nursing his drink. When a pretty boy steps forward. Gregory is not in his element and has men throwing themselves but he isn't interested. Until he see Bull. Gregory has a nightmare to head home to so when he becomes the victim to domestic violence... He is battered and bruised. When Landon demands Bull the man doesn't hesitate. He wants the younger man but what does he have to offer? As their relationship develops Bull and Gregory have to come face to face with there impending demise. Can they stop Gregory's husband and be happy at long last...
Okay. There's more editing needed, some so that content makes sense, some for grammatical errors. But they're really minor and don't detract from the story.
That said, I enjoyed the read and the characters. Bull and Gregory especially. There are all the secondaries that I also love, plus new ones. They aren't as involved in the story as they are in some of the other books, which is good. The story really is about Bull and Gregory and everything else is a distant echo.
As usual There's a lot of dialogue without a lot of whining self doubt. Also as usual, the self doubt is more what I think real people would worry about, but do wasn't overpower any thing else.
It's an easy read and a great romance.
I'm not super familiar with this author, however I do believe I started her books in the wrong order, because the newer ones are WAY better edited than any of the books in this series. I mean, we're talking missing or incorrect words, question marks missing or where they don't belong, a ton of grammatical errors. If she has an editor and a beta / proofreading team, she needs new ones because this was pretty awful. The story itself is not bad, hence the two stars, but definitely not a stand out book by any means.
I love this series so much!
I knew I was going to love Papa Bear, Bull... he tried to be hard and sure, he was when it came to protecting the ones he cared about, but he loved his family... The guys he'd adopted and took in when they'd needed family... That's exactly what he done with Gregory too.

Gregory was Landon's boss and was married to an abusive man. Very abusive and although Landon suspected it, he never had proof....until the one day he did and called Bull in to go with his to check on Gregory... That's when Bull claimed him.
Of course, it wasn't that easy.... There were tons of back and forths, it was a sticky situation since Gregory was married and the psycho husband wouldn't give him a divorce and there's the fact that, bull is 20 years older than Gregory so each one of them had excuses why it wouldn't work out but then in the next breath, they'd say they were claiming each other... So, it took a while, they danced around it for a bit.... But, when they got there, it was incredibly sweet. Gregory was just what Bull needed and Bull was exactly what Gregory needed.

I think the thing about the exes in these stories is that they're all kind of unbelievable.... Like, trying to kill each other and stuff... I mean, maybe because I'm from a small town with a low crime rate... but, how many times can that happen in one group of friends? A crazy stalker, abusive, murderous ex? Does it happen a lot?
And then Thrope is a homophobe, but what does that have to do with anything about catching someone attempting murder? I kind of wish we would've gotten little more closure with the ex. I wanted to know he was suffering....I wanted to know that he got his karmic justice... I need vengeance, I guess. I'm psycho like that.

Overall though, I loved this story... I loved Bull's sweet yet dirty mouth. I loved how he treated Gregory and how Gregory fit right into his life, willingly. It was another awesome addition to an already awesome series. I cannot wait for Hunter!!!
5, well deserved stars from me!
