Although long, I found this book an enjoyable read. The characters are reflective of their age and values, which made the story both interesting and irritatingly accurate of teenage attitudes. A good holiday read with action, history and enough magic and intrigue to have kept me reading.

Myy friend told me to read this book and she reads different things to me so i was thinking that 'its was going to be some boring fairy tale that no one liked' but whilist reading this i couldnt put it down i found it awesome exspecialy when i found out it had fairy and that kind of stuff in it 'cause thats the sort of stuf im into. But yeah it wasd an awesome book.
I went into reading this book thinking that it was a young adult title. But it falls squarely in the middle grade category. The protagonists are only thirteen (and a rather immature thirteen, at that), and the prose has some eye-rolling moments that made me, as an adult reader, cringe.

The plot is interesting enough (Hannah and her friends go back in time in Scotland to retrieve four pieces of a puzzle ring so they can break her family's curse), but it gets bogged down by trying too hard to be historical fiction as well as fantasy. At nearly 400 pages, the book is simply too long.

I probably would have enjoyed this book if I'd read it as a child. But if I'm going to read middle grade fiction now, I prefer it to be a little more sophisticated. I'd recommend Ingrid Law's Savvy for a good example of middle grade fiction where the child protagonists aren't portrayed as so whiny and immature that you want to slap them.
I enjoy reading Kates books and again she has come through. Fantasy meets Historical and you have a great book.
This is typical Kate Forsyth. Gets you in from the beginning, and holds your attention from start to finish. A great read.
This book is well researched and historically factual. It's deal for teenage girls. It's exciting and moves along at a steady pace
