Neurovont Incorporated is a vividly written excursion into a violent dystopia with an unusual and thought provoking plot twist/paradigm shift near the end. It's drugs, sex, and violence, but so much more. The book is a page turner in the best sense of the genres the author is, very cleverly, both practicing and subverting. The descriptions of addictions of various kinds, and of daily life in a community of reviled and hunted outcasts, are powerful and resonate with the reader. The author could use a little more research on guns, however. And the too-hasty scenario by which the U.S. transforms into a thoroughly Evil and utterly unredeemed totalitarian state, requires a bit of indulgence from knowledgeable readers and genre afficianados alike. Gil Waters is a unique voice and based on this, I'd love to see him attempt a straight non-genre or even non-fiction take on contemporary drug addiction or daily life in other marginalized communities.Tags : NeuroVont, Incorporated [Gil A Waters] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. It's like a William Gibson novel, except you can actually understand what is going on. It's like The Matrix, except that you actually care about the characters. It's like The X Files, except the protagonists don't wait 7 seasons to have sex (and lots of it). It's like a Tarantino film, except that there is actually a plot (and its a good one). Gritty, yet engaging. Violent, yet touching. If you like stories of global contagion with a withering political satirical bent, read this!
Fascinating, smart first novel by Gil A. Waters! The narrative is convincing and full of twists and turns. I had trouble putting the book down. Particularly enjoyable to me were the moments where the author zooms in on the dynamics of human relationships under conditions of severe strain. NeuroVont, Incorporated paints a grim picture of an America that responds to crisis with systematic brutality against the victims, an America that has capitulated to a mixture of hysteria and a cold-blooded elimination logic, an America where the mass murder of people is state sponsored and generalized. In the post-9/11 era, the novel's themes could hardly be more relevant. Gil A. Waters asks the reader pertinent questions about concepts of infection and otherness Who is the real terrorist in this "war against terror," and whence comes the real threat to humanity? I prefer to read the book as a story about global class struggle. In a world where the ranks of the disposable classes, hunted down as the abject and diseased, swell constantly and the violent repression of any form of rebellion is becoming ever more fierce and ceaseless, there is still space for resistance, for solidarity, and hope.
NeuroVont, Incorporated presents and extreme yet realistic window into what it is like to be a victim of government-induced media censorship. Anyone who loves graphic works will find this story absolutely riveting! It draws on several valuable and time-tested lessons about the price of mass ignorance that somehow humanity has still failed to learn. The social messages here are deeper and more profound than the cover would lead one to believe.
Super thrilling and fast-paced, Gil A. Waters' "NeuroVont" is a delicious read. It combines a feast of adventures by Rik and Dez - central love-bird warriors and their fight with the bio-terrorist virus that leaves them changed and perhaps even enlightened. I loved how Waters' closes the book!!!! Great final chapters.
I didn't bother to finish this book. I got about 120 pages in and realized I didn't like, nor care about, any of the characters. This book starts out kind of interesting, but it just goes flat. It's like the author realized it needed to be longer and just had the characters piss around for 40 pages. There's little character development, even what we know about the disease could be developed more. It's just a one dimensional story that might work as a graphic novel, but doesn't stand up as a novel.
NeuroVont, Incorporation is a wild and wacky ride with surprises and the unexpected in an atmosphere of gloom and hopelessness. The reader is drawn into a vortex of horror, violence and inhumanity drowning in sex and drugs and finally rewarded by the possible promise of a transcendent conclusion. Strongly recommended.
This is the one it's well-written, an engaging and unique story that takes the reader for a ride through a future that's real enough to be scary. While the main character at first appearance seems to lack any kind of zest for life, he manages through luck, forethought, and perseverance to survive a nightmare that many haven't. And wait, what is that? courage? Yes, our drug-addled hero also displays courage as well as love, protectiveness, and generosity. These traits contrast brilliantly with a dark and terrifying world of persecution. This is a fast and enjoyable read. Hopefully, this is only a first of many.
