Fantastic first release by Abby Stern. According to A Source is light, fun, and completely addictive! I'd say this is the perfect beach read, but I found myself reading this everywhere I went. It is rare to find such a captivating book in this genre. While I really enjoyed guessing who all the stars were, Ella Warren herself stole the show! She is lovable from the first page (with her hilarious dialogue about Chateau), and somehow remains endearing even at her lowest points. I found myself rooting for her in a way I haven't rooted for a main character in years. You can't help but want everything to work out for her. I loved the ending, however I found myself sad to leave the story. I would love to see this adapted into a screenplay or television show!Tags : According to a Source: A Novel [Abby Stern] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. A delicious novel. ― People According to a Source, written by a real celebrity journalist insider,Abby Stern,According to a Source: A Novel,Thomas Dunne Books,1250106796,Contemporary Women,Family Life,Celebrities,Celebrities;Fiction.,FICTION Contemporary Women,FICTION Contemporary Women.,FICTION Family Life,Families,Gossip,Reporters and reporting,Tabloid newspapers,Young women,Young women;Fiction.,060101 St Martins Trade Fiction,AMERICAN CONTEMPORARY FICTION,AMERICAN FIRST NOVELISTS,American Contemporary Fiction - Individual Authors +,California,FICTION Family Life General,FICTION Women,Family Life General,Fiction,Fiction-Coming of Age,FictionFamily Life - General,GENERAL,General Adult,United States, contemporary fiction; womens fiction; beach reads; family life fiction; family life novels; beach books; hollywood fiction; Hollywood novels; celebrities fiction; celebrities novels; celebrity fiction; celebrity novels; celebrity journalism; undercover reporter novel; undercover journalist novel; los angeles fiction; gossip magazine fiction; career fiction; career novels, contemporary fiction; womens fiction; family life fiction; family life novels; beach books; beach reads; hollywood fiction; Hollywood novels; celebrities fiction; celebrities novels; celebrity fiction; celebrity novels; celebrity journalism; undercover reporter novel; undercover journalist novel; los angeles fiction; gossip magazine fiction; career fiction; career novels,FICTION Family Life General,FICTION Women,Family Life General,FictionFamily Life - General,American Contemporary Fiction - Individual Authors +,American First Novelists,Fiction

Really enjoyed this read because of how witty and true to subject it is. Abby Stern nails the intricacies and social hierarchy of hotspots like the Chateau Marmont, as well as the isolation of having to fit in with the A-list rich kids when you're barely covering the rent. It's not always glamorous, but like Ella, in L.A. we wash away our sorrows with Rosé!
This book may or may not be aimed at the more mature male reader, but I found it delightful and a fun read. We can only hope that this is not the last effort of Ms Stern, and the last we hear from Ella Warren. Maybe a whole series featuring her? We should be able to follow her career!
I really enjoyed reading this book and couldn't put it down. The long titles were the only things that bothered me. I would just skip the names. Giving them names (I.e., Jack or Wendy) would have made an already great storyline more personal and even better. Overall, it was a lot of fun to read and had some cool twists. Hope another book comes out soon!
I'll admit, I gave up. Perhaps I'll finish it and adjust my rating, but the book lost me with how obvious the story line was. I felt like I could guess what comes next - it's a story I've seen in enough circa 2005 romcoms. It was a little contrived and I just couldn't charge through it.
This is a story about being in the Hollywood elite inner circle an trying to get exclusive stories. Along the way Ella finds that she is jeopardizing her friendships with Holiday Hall, a budding actress, her boyfriend, and her family. As the the competition grows fiercer Ella finds herself caught in a public scandal that may cost her everything.
"According to a Source" is a fun, entertaining book - with a lot of heart. I couldn't put it down! Following celebrity reporter Ella Warren's adventures in the craziness of LA was addicting (as was trying to put a real-life face to characters given clever names like Southern Girl-Next-Door Movie Star). The story made me feel like I was part of an exclusive club. And I have to say I will never read gossip magazines in the same way ever again! "According to a Source" also had great messages about family, friendship, work/life balance, and love. I think it would make a great movie and I can't wait to see what Abby Stern comes up with next. Definitely worth your time!
Fun but with a satisfying finish - the perfect summer read!
Ella Warren is the friend you wish you had, getting you into the chicest restaurants, the hottest clubs, and the best after parties in L.A. Through her, the reader gets the ultimate peek into the A-list lifestyle. Decoding the allusions will make even the pop culture amateur feel like an insider.
With a fresh premise, delightfully flawed characters, and plot twists in all the right places, it's hard to put down. Sweet but never saccharine, unlike much in the genre, the ending does not disappoint. Except that you'll be sorry to leave the story behind.
The material feels so ripe for the screen, though, that I'm sure it won't be long until the movie version is out. Or better yet- a TV series. Listening ?
